Snoring Treatment in San Diego
What is snoring?
Snoring is the loud, grating sound that happens when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat. The sound of snoring is caused by those tissues vibrating as you breathe.
Most people snore occasionally. Overtiredness, certain sleep positions, and recent alcohol consumption are just a few of the factors that can contribute to snoring. However, chronic snoring can be a major nuisance, especially to your partner. Snoring can also indicate a more serious underlying health condition, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Symptoms of chronic snoring
Snoring can be very disrupting to your partner’s sleep. But snoring itself isn’t actually a condition in the medical sense – it’s a symptom. Since very few of us actually intend to make our partners grouchy and irritable, addressing the root cause of your snoring is important.
Since chronic snoring can be a symptom of OSA, it’s a good idea to compare your symptoms with those of sleep apnea. These can include cycles where breathing slows then stops, dry mouth and headaches upon waking, difficulty staying sleep at night, and difficulty staying awake during the day. Treatments for snoring
While many people use home remedies like Advil and nose strips to treat their snoring, there are other more robust treatments available. These include surgery to obstructions in the throat and tongue, mouth guards to realign the jaw and prevent teeth grinding, CPAP machines, and more.
Note that if the cause of your snoring is sleep apnea, then your treatment will be based on which of the three types of sleep apnea you have.
